jungle writing space
bonjour from the tropics where my downtime is spent writing, editing, and getting bodywork on my injured joints. before i settle in to work on penning the intro to my upcoming anthology, i wanted to check in with you, my dear reader.
last night while leading a writing workshop for our retreaters, i shared the ways yoga and writing align, tools for the writing practice, and various prompts. in addition, i introduced the quote by martha graham that is a critical reminder to the creative process. here it is:
“There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you into action,
and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique.
And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and be lost.
The world will not have it.
It is not your business to determine how good it is, nor how valuable it is, nor how it compares with other expressions.
It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open.
You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work.
You have to keep open and aware directly to the urges that motivate YOU.
Keep the channel open.”
i’d like to remind you, too, that what you have to share with the world is important. and it takes practice. and it takes time. and it takes energy. and it takes vulnerability. and it takes being a beginner. and it takes perseverance. and, frankly, it takes chutzpah.
stay present and watch what flows. we want to see, hear, smell, taste, and feel it. no one else can offer what you do. keep the channel open. bisous. x
