Supporting pig sanctuaries and pug rescues through awareness, micro-grants, and community compassion.

about the project
As Pigs & Pugs Project has grown, so has our desire to streamline operations and direct even more resources to helping pig sanctuaries and pug rescues. To make that possible, we’ve transitioned from a 501(c)(3) organization to a donor-advised fund.
This behind-the-scenes shift reduces admin expenses and keeps the focus on what matters most: offering micro-grants, promoting awareness, and celebrating the snouts and smooshes who bring so much joy to our world.
Pigs & Pugs Project Fund raises awareness through special events and supports the work of pig sanctuaries and pug rescue organizations throughout the United States with micro-grants.

Our Story
Created by Kimberly Wilson, Pigs & Pugs Project began as a simple way to channel compassion toward creatures who often go unseen. Over the years, it has grown into a small but mighty giving program fueled by community kindness with over $50k in donations so far.
No matter how our structure evolves, our purpose stays constant:
to bring more care, comfort, and love to pigs and pugs everywhere.

Pigs & Pugs Project Fund is a registered 501(c)(3) US charity and Tranquil Space Foundation’s second program. Launched in 2016, it embodies Tranquil Space Foundation’s shift to animal welfare issues, which have always been at the forefront of co-founder Kimberly Wilson’s mind and mission.
Pigs & Pugs Project Fund raises awareness through special events and supports the work of pig sanctuaries and pug rescue organizations throughout the United States through micro-grants.
Since the non-profit’s launch in 2006, Tranquil Space Foundation donated nearly $30,000 to like-hearted organizations around the globe that support women and girls.
Did you know that pigs are intelligent and have complex and clever, even humorous, ideas? They’re said to be the fifth most intelligent animal in the world and we agree!
Sadly, the short life of a pig in our modern agricultural system is disheartening and difficult given common practices which include cutting off part of the animal’s tail (docking), and housing them in crowded conditions with no bedding, devoid of any enrichment for these smart and sensitive animals.
But what about pet pigs? You may have read about or known someone who has experience with a companion pig – most often a potbelly pig. Although so-called “teacup pigs” have seen a surge in popularity, they tend to grow to a two to three hundred pounds of teacup cuteness.
Since pigs are so completely adorable, many people buy or adopt them with the best of intentions to provide love and care for the animal but are unfortunately uninformed about their intense needs. Their curiosity and intelligence, combined with their territoriality and the difficulty of keeping them in smaller urban or suburban spaces, means there has been an increase in the number of pigs relinquished to shelters and rescues. Pigs require long-term specialized care and provide a lifetime of love.
Learn more about these beautiful beings by visiting them at one of the many sanctuaries and consider sponsoring or adopting one of your own. We love supporting their work through micro-grants.
We think pugs are the greatest! They snore like an old man, follow you everywhere, demand treats on the hour, and make the silliest sounds.
Sometimes their silly squishy faces and buggy eyes can cause problems for them. A pug’s unique physiology means that they can be susceptible to respiratory and eye problems, and they may often suffer from skin problems as well. Their serious medical problems mean that some caregivers may not be able to afford the necessary and proper veterinary care, and consequently relinquish them.
The sad truth is that some pugs come into shelters and rescues with a high level of medical needs. There are a number of amazing pug rescues around the United States and we love supporting their ongoing rescues through micro-grants.
