today is a special day to honor women and it always warms my heart. when i took my first women’s studies class my senior year of college, i felt like i’d come home and wondered where it had been all my life. such eye-opening curriculum – especially for a girl from oklahoma. next i pursued a master’s in women’s studies with bells on. although i was seeking a more spiritual approach to the curriculum, i loved learning and questioning our patriarchal society with other like-minded women.
8 years since completion and i’m back in school studying social work. this semester’s international social work class is full of data on how investing in women is the key to transforming communities. apparently, the united nations agrees. according to the united nations, “estimates reveal that if women had the same access to productive resources as men, they could increase yields on their farms by 20–30 percent, lifting 100-150 million out of hunger.” um, that’s a lot of people!
how can we make a difference today and beyond? well, i found an article in the washington post sharing 10 ways to celebrate which include eating a cupcake and wearing red lipstick. now we can all get behind that!
wishing you a beautiful day to bask in being a woman. ideally that is every day. bisous. x
