Week 29 of 52 Weeks of Tranquility

Take a raisin in your hand. Observe its texture. Smell its fragrance. Squeeze it by your ear and notice any sounds. Put it on your tongue and move it around your mouth with full awareness of the sensations.

Take one bite into the raisin and notice a burst of flavor. Slowly chew it into tiny pieces until there is nothing left. Observe how much time this takes.

The raisin meditation is one of the first practices in an 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction {MBSR} course and it never ceases to amaze me. Paying attention to such a small object is a grand reminder to slow down and savor.
